So, each year at CleverTap we like to take stock of the state of the mobile app landscape to see what the macro trends are showing and to find out what apps are trending and which are lagging. Shopping, buying, traveling, eating, dating, gaming, even meditating and sleeping are all things we regularly now do with the aid of an app. *Īnd every one of these users has needs, many of which can be solved with an app. Quick answer: because it’s a digital world, and more people worldwide have a smartphone than ever before - a cool 6.3 billion of them to be exact (and another 1.4 billion on tablets). 4.1 trillion total hours spent on apps (+9% YoY growth).$336 billion spent on mobile adds (+14% YoY growth).5 hours daily spent on apps, per user (+3% YoY growth).$167 billion spent in app stores (-2% YoY growth).255 billion new app downloads (+11% YoY growth).With over 2.87 million apps available for download on the Google Play Store and 1.96 million apps available on Apple’s App Store, we may have reached peak app saturation, with literally hundreds of app choices for any use case you can think of.
